type of Japanese Maple

  1. Hi,
I bought a Japanese Red Maple from a wholesale planter and I didn't
get the name of it. I have come home and found there to be several
differnet types. I can't tell if it's a crimson queen or a Acer palmatum 'Toyama nishiki'.
If I send you a picture of it, will you tell me what kind it is?

Also, on the bark...it looks to be green in some areas and almost a blue. What's that about???

Post some photos. Even a thorough description isn't really enough to ID. Using photos some of us will at least have an idea....not that I know anything... :-) Take some closeups of single leaves, a group of leaves on a branch, some branches, and if possible the whole tree.

    waxy bloom

Young stems often have a waxy bloom and appear blue or white mixed with green. This is also known as the cuticle. The waxy layer covering the epidermis of a leaf or stem that prevents the desiccation of inner tissues and thus prevents water loss . Also can help protect from fungal or bacterial attack and may aid in protecting the tissues from some chewing and sucking insects.
