This somewhat showy plant with chains of red tubular flowers in pairs is growing over the Rhododendron decorum in 3AC2. I thought it was a liana because it looked like it was hanging on stuff, but then there's the second photo where it looks like it's growing up from the ground. So sorry, I can't figure that out. Growing over this is what I think might be Aristolochia cucurbitifolia, although I don't see that listed anywhere.
buddleja colvilei - Bing images The other is a Tropaeolum complete with hallmark flower bud shapes in addition to characteristic leaves.
Thank you. The Buddleja is supposed to be a shrub. The Tropaeolum is not supposed to be there. The Alpine Garden does have Tropaeolum ciliatum, which does seem to be around that size. And Tropaeolum speciosum is known to be running around the Asian Garden. Is it really that small? I should see the flower colour in a week or two, when I will have the Rosa filipes 'Kiftsgate' to guide me back there.
Yes, the buddleja is a shrub with tall branches that flop over and hang. The Tropaeolum speciosum is a beautiful weed in the Asian Garden--yes the young vines are rather fine.
