Hi, I live in Victoria, BC. I have moved to a new house where the previous owners planted cedars in the hopes of them becoming a hedge for privacy. Unfortunately they aren't coming in very well and are growing very slowly. I've noticed around town that a lot of people tend to trim back the individual cedar trees in the middle only, making an almost hour glass shape. Is this to promote higher growth? Thanks!
Maybe deer, which like popular Thuja occidentalis cultivars. Although browsed ones I have seen were stubbed back all the way from the ground up to the point where the cropping stopped.
