I just acquired a tree peony seedling at the local master gardners sale. Undefined yellow tree peony about 6-7" tall single stem, I assume direct sown (not grafted).

I have several locations I can put it but wonder if it is better to keep it potted until it gets bigger or to place it in the garden now. Any special care for such a baby?

Plant it out now while it is still small. They don't move well when larger.

Thank you. One location would be just beyond the line of cedar and fir trees but still under their canopy. They are limbed up so would get afternoon sun. Other location would be more out in the open, same south west exposure but gets sun for a longer time. Is one better than the other?
