Tree disease..Rust ?

Hi, the past few years my Snowbird Hawthornee leaves have curled and there is rust colored blotches. The tree blooms each year and seems health until mid July, then the leaves start to curl. I have attached pictures. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

 

Do you grow any junipers or similar plants nearby?

 

There was a juniper, but I removed it two years ago. There is a small ground cover juniper in the front yard, probably 75 feet away.

 

That'd be close enough for cedar-hawthorn rust.

 

What can be done?

 

Get rid of the juniper if the hawthorn is important. Or, switch your hawthorn to a resistant variety: Cedar-Hawthorn Rust | Focus on Plant Problems | U of I Extension
