The tree in the photos is growing very close to a soil cliff overlooking the English Channel in Fairlight, East Sussex England. It looks healthy. I notice the same variety all around. I understand it is evergreen, so I am told, by those who are not entirely sure. The location has a mild climate in Winter. ID appreciated. Thank you
I know nothing about this, but I'm interested to see from what others say if Quercus spinosa is in the running. There seems to be a lot of variation in the amount of spininess of the leaf margins of that species. I chose a photo that I think looks similar. large.jpeg (1024×768), from the posting at https://uk.inaturalist.org/observations/111918637.
Holm Oak Quercus ilex. Naturalised, and locally invasive, in southern England (and it too, also has a lot of variation in leaf margin spininess!).
