We have a large camellia in the front of our house that blocks the front window. I would like to transplant it to another location. Can it be transplanted successfully? If so any advice on how or when to do it would be appreciated.

    Thanks

    Hello squid1215

yes, you can transplant it, but it's a lot of work and there are never any guarantees when you transplant something large (and/or old).

your probability of success is greater if you do it when it's dormant--like late fall. You might want to take this opportunity to prune it a little this summer after it's finished blooming. Reducing the volume always makes a plant easier to move.

Prepare your new hole, dig up the camelia taking the biggest root ball you can manage--at least 18" in diameter, replant, water well, keep your fingers crossed.

    i hope this helps

Thanks for the reply Sea Witch. I will give it a go this fall and hopefully all will go well.
