Is it too late now to sow seed outdoors that require 1 or 2 month cold stratification ?

Yes, it's too late for this year to complete stratification outside. Get a small plastic container, fill with vermiculite (use finer substrate for smaller seeds), mix the seed in & moisten. Put the lid on it and stick it in your fridge for 60-90 days. Stratification will be done in time so that you haven't lost the growing season.

Oh oh - I thought so. I've been banned from using the fridge but maybe I can sneak some small packets in. Thank you Simon.

I sympathize, I've struck a fine balance between our fridge, my wife, & my seeds. :-)

Make sure during the cold stratification the seeds are moist. Dry & cold won't work, that's reserved for long term storage.
