We had a huge family picnic under the Maple tree. All was great until we brought out food. Then hundreds of tiny black beetle like bugs came off tree in to any food. No one could eat! The little bugs were everywhere! Anyone know what they are? How to get rid of them? The maple tree is big and beautiful, the bugs werent there until we brought out food. We are in central ny state

You didn't take any photos, did you?

Maybe they don't live in a maple, but in the grass : I remember when I was a kid and with my parents we would pick green beans from the garden, we were bitten by 2 mm (0,0787402 inch, less than 1/10th of an inch) black critters that I've never been able to identify.

Probably not the same, NY is not Loiret, but perhaps the blame shouldn't be put on a maple... ;°)

Could it just be aphids ? And what kind of maple is it ?
