I have 15 foot cedar hedges that are not looking to great anymore. They were thick when we moved in 3 years ago and now we're starting to see the neighbours' yards. HELP!

Are we overtrimming? We have been doing it once per year - too much? Too little? Spring? Fall?

Do they need compost or some type of fertilizer? Please help.

Impossible to say without seeing them. However, if these are sheared hedges and you are not pruning at an angle from bottom to top, so that the tops are narrower than the bases, the lower parts may be getting shaded by the upper and therefore be becoming sparser.
