I have a 7' blue spruce that is really very thin (some say ugly)..I would like to get it to thicken and loose it's sparseness. The new growth is just about to pop from the coverings. Should I cut or pinch the new growth off?

    Thanks.

BTW I am not very knowledgeable about plants etc, so be kind>

    Don't cut it at all.

Thin-ness is usually related to not enough sunlight: can you improve light for it, by removing anything that is shading it?

Thaks for the reply. The tree does get lots of sunlight. I think that in the first few years, some of the lower branches my have suffered from dogs using it as a "fire hydrant".

    Here is a photo.

Well, the tree will try to recover as best it can on its own. As it grows, it should fill in.

Dog urine can be fairly toxic, I've observed. In the boulevard plantings outside of the highrise where I live, the first tree encountered where people walk their dogs is now dead, and the second is nearly so.
