I would like to know something about this plant, particularly if it is suitable for my Zone 8 b. If so, what does it look like and where can I get it?

Piroche plants, a wholesale nursery (that carries some really neat stuff from the orient!) in the Fraser Valley lists it in their catalogue with a description try this link and follow the clicks to the catalogue page a PDF format document, contact the sales desk to find a nursery in your area that may have stock or can get it in for you: http://www.pirocheplants.com/Piroche/Web2002/Welcome.htm

BTW, I bought a Michelia figo this spring from Piroche and its doing great, fingers crossed for a mild winter.
