Hi, I'd like to grow sweetpea vines. I grew them from seed and they're ready to go into our garden. I'm hoping to plant it near a fence or on a trellis so it can climb (the seed package says it can do this). Can I plant it in a pot or will it be fine right in the garden soil? Do I need to initially tie it on a trellis? Thanks M
I'd say plant them in the ground, and just aim them in the right direction, possibly gently tie in at the bottom of the trellis (im assuming your not growing for show, because theres a lot of work involved in that)
I'm growing them for show (trail on our ugly wood fence) and for the scent. It does take some work, but it'll be easier than some of the other stuff I've done in our garden. Thanks : )
If you really want to take the trouble to get more and bigger flowers, you could cut off all the tendrils but you would have to tie the vines.
