Just wondering if anyone can make some specific recommendations for sweet or super-sweet varieties that might do well in tropical climates. I would be particularly interested in non-hybrid/open-pollinated varieties.

Zea mays "Kandy King" cultivars are a super-sweet open-pollinator that like higher heat and humidity; I think you can get them in the States.

There are a number of cultivars here in Ecuador, heritage seeds, but everybody down here just calls them "choclo dulce." They may say that it's been handed down from their great-great grannies or something, but I can't help with cultivar names because there don't seem to be any.
