Should I leave this alone? My Bloodgood was planted to deep and I removed the soil around the base but there are roots around the crown that have grown to the surface. leave them alone or should I cut them? I still need to remove more soil. Looks like there was some settling and tree sunk 4-5 inches
Looks like it has been in a while and has adapted to situation - I would leave it alone at this stage if it were mine. The surface roots are not a problem in themselves, JM's often send out large roots at or near the surface.
I would leave them alone also. I have a few old maples in my garden with roots the same. They are over 40 years old and are doing fine. I see no evidence of girdling in your photo, so all is fine.
