These have just come up in the last week. They tend to be at lower mountain elevations (<9000 ft). My best guess is Suillus pseudobrevipes (Veiled Short-Stemmed Slippery Jack). I see only one photo of this species on the internets, but they are very young, so its difficult to compare to what I've seen. I tried to get a spore print, but nothing dropped.
Does it fit the description of Suillus lakei? Thats what i first thought. But I'm a lumper, especially of Suilli....
It does fit the description, except that apparently S. lakei likes Douglas fir. These were under spruce...mostly...there were a lot of them and I didn't take note of all of their habitats. You are probably correct.
