I talked with a lady selling fruit at our local Farmer's Market (in Southern California). She said her husband (a commercial fruit grower) sprays his trees with sugar-water. I have not seen her lately and cannot ask her about the sugar-water spray.

I want to have the same success that I saw in the fruit she was selling (plums, peaches, nectarines, pluots, and other stone fruit). I have peach, nectarine, Asian pear, apple, apricot, grapefruit, avocado, fig, blackberry, strawberry, blueberry, etc. trees and bushes.

My wife sez that this was to attract bees. I thought I remembered that the trees were sprayed with sugar-water for fruit production--to give the trees more energy for fruit production.

Does anyone have any knowledge about spraying fruit trees and/or bushes with sugar-water.

    Thanks

Their results are due to ALL of their planting and maintenance program, including the site chosen for their orchard, and which cultivars they chose for planting. You are unlikely to attain the same level of success just by employing a single aspect of their cultural methods; the sugar water should not be relied on as a sort of magic bullet.
