Hi there. I'm looking to renew strawberry part of my garden, want to get rid of the old ones and buy a new ones. Dont know exact number of plants I need, but I'll definetly neeed more than 50, so local garden shops are not the choice for plant supply. Anybody can suggest any trusted nurseries that grow and sell strawberry plants? Thank you Roman
Depends how many you want to buy. There is this website: http://www.strawberrytyme.com/homepricelist.html The only problem with them, is last time I emailed them last year some time, the shipping was about $100. I am growing my own from seed this year. I have about 32 seedlings and I paid $3-5 for the seeds.
100$ for delivery? Are they were planning to deliver each plant in its own pot full of soil? Do you know any places that grow strawberry plants around Vancouver area?
Most garden centres sell bare root plants in bundles of 10 for around $6. I buy 30-40 plants every year to renew my beds, mostly from GardenWorks in Burnaby; but other outlets offer similar packages.
Potted strawberry plants are expensive, but unnecessary. The plants from bare root bundles are easy to plant and grow well, especially if you plant early. For best results pinch off the early flower clusters until the plants grow to a reasonable size. I always plant day-neutral ever-bearing types because they produce well from late spring to the end of October.
Thank you for answers. Going to buy plants in bare root bundles and I'll try to grow some from seeds.
Where would you recommend for this in Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows? Seems like triple tree doesn't have bare root.
RedTailHawk, I'm not familiar with garden centres in your area; but I know that there is an Art Knapp's Plantland just across the bridge, in Port Coquitlam. Gardenworks used to have the same name; so Plantland might carry similar stock.
You could try HenryField.ca http://www.henryfields.ca/product/Ozark_Beauty_Everbearing_Strawberries/small_fruits_berries Or Veseys.ca http://www.veseys.com/ca/en/store/fruitsberries/strawberries/albion I have order plants on line from both of these nurseries and they are reputable and will stand behind their plants. Prices are also reasonable
Beardedcactus, if you haven't purchased your strawberry plants yet, you could try Cedar Rim Nursery in Langley. They have some varieties in bundles of 25 for $10 and others in bundles of 10 for $5. I just bought my supply of everbearing strawberries there.
