The back yard of the house in which I live has six or seven staghorn sumac trees. I have noticed that there are dozens and dozens of shoots coming up around the trees, and in other parts of the garden.
I don't want to remove the trees that are there, but how do I stop the proliferation of more trees?

If you don't want a grove or thicket you may have to take them all out. If the shoots are in a lawn you can mow them off.

Thank you very much for the information. I guess I'll just have to get the lawnmower busy.

Yeap, I had to do this as a kid. Seemed like I was always mowing those suckers. Though, to be fair to the sumac, it was planted at the site of an old outhouse - it did very, very well.
