Identification: Sprout from store bought topsoil

    These grew up after we put down topsoil from the Home Depot. They are filled with what looks like black seeds. Anybody recognize it?

    They look like immature bird's nest fungi (family Nidulariaceae). If that's what they are, when mature, they should look like a miniature bird's nest with tiny black eggs. The photo in this Web page: Bird's Nests Fungi shows both mature and immature specimens that look similar to yours; but, unfortunately, the species is not identified.
