Our fullmoon and shaina in front of our home are both opening up nicely now. The fullmoon gets approx one our of morning sun a day, and maintains that vivid lime green all thru out the summer. We can view it often as the dining table is just inside the window

It's taken until May this year for my trees to come out in their full Spring colours. I still have a couple that haven't leafed out properly yet, so those to follow soon. Plus Griseum of course lol.
So here are a few in the morning sun.

    The same here - hopefully!
24°C today, a few raindrops from time to time. What do you say in English, "stifling"?

'Orange Dream', two air-layers. They both have very light green, almost yellow leaves. Time to water them with some chelated iron fertilizer ?...

Even if the photo accentuates the perspective, the pot is now much too small. Slip-potting must be done soon...

Acer griseum is budding out, and, oh my! it looks that it's going to have some flowers :

Acer elegantulum, in the left-hand corner, behind a red Berberis (actually, an excuse to post a picture of the pink tamaris, the mauve wisteria climbing on the burgundy prunus...)

Two more from a cold and windy UK. March we had the rain, April we had the frost, and now in May we are getting the strong winds again just like last years weather , Oh dear hope this isn't a pattern/sign for the coming years !!!
First three pics Cosmos this is a pretty looking one at present , then the cascade gold which is certainly pushing out more new growth this year , another couple of years and this will be a perfectly symmetrical 360 degree fully ground dropped tree.

I took the 2 dodgy looking plants back to the garden centre and they were happy for me to swap them as I spend a fair amount in there (I used to spend a lot of the budget from the care home I worked at there every month as well!) I popped in to take them back and have a look but there wasn't much time before they closed so I picked out a Sumi Nagashi and an Enkan, then when I went back the next day I picked them out of the stock tunnel and there was LOADS of other maples in there waiting to be potted on and labelled. Had a rummage around and I found a Nicholsonii which was nice so I could replace the one that got diseased, and a really nice Ariadne which I haven't previously seen anywhere at a decent size. It was also a great price as they were due to be potted up and priced up!
I did manage to resist buying a Chitosayama, a Bonnie Bergman and another Autumn Moon - I already have one but they're one of my favourite cultivars. I've not seen Bonnie Bergman anywhere before, or ever heard of it, and there doesn't seem to be a thread in the photos forum for it... does anyone have one? I was tempted to grab one for reference and post pictures on here but it doesn't look especially special and apparently gets quite big!

    Aka Shigitatsu Sawa
    Ariadne
Garnet, Little Princess, Ichigyoji, Lilianne's Jewel (Pixie and Jordan in the background)
Metamorphosa x2 - really pleased how this one leafed out this year as I only bought it last year in not the best condition and it was a bit twiggy and scorched a lot.
Orange Dream, Amagi Shigure, Komyo Ji - Happy the Amagi Shigure has finally begun to pick up and look healthy again. Bought from an awful online retailer in 2020 and it more or less entirely died back to one tiny twig within weeks.
Orange Dream (part way bonsai'd) Shishigashira from air layer, Sharon
Aureum, Villa Taranto, Sensu, Jerre Schwartz which I have cut back significantly due to die back, it also didn't really leaf out red but instead a muddy bronze colour
Ukigumo, Enkan, Tsuma Gaki which barely had any red colouring to the leaf tips this year - I wonder if I kept it too shaded?

    Very nice!
I can see you staked 'Tsuma gaki' : mine has a low, almost weeping habit. I've kept it in almost full shade in the past year, but since I'm re-arranging things, moving my trees around, I might keep it where it is now. It will get the sun in the morning, then be in the shadeafter noon, which I think is a good exposure for maples.

    jardin_230506b.jpg jardin_230506c.jpg acerp-tsuma-gaki_230506a.jpg

Red tips : what about the soil mix? Mine gets redder tips when I've repotted it, with about 1/4th of composted pine bark, which is rather acidic.

Today was very warm (24-25°C) and rather sunny, but I couldn't spend as much time as I wanted in the garden. The rainy episode will become tomorrow - I caught a glimpse of what it was like in London and saw it was rather wet!

A few other pics from this afternoon :

    Atrolineare / Como / Koto-no-Ito / Starfish

    acerp-atrolineare_230506a.jpg acerp-como_230506a.jpg acerp-kotonoito_230506a.jpg acerp-starfish_230506a.jpg

A 'Gwen's Rose Delight' aka 'Shirazz' that flowered for the first time this year, and a smaller one that has lighter colours - with leaves of an Acer trifolium, a red seedling and Okushimo:

    acerp-gwensro_230506a.jpg acerp-gwensro-2_230506a.jpg

And this one I thought was from a shirasawanum seed, but when looking at the leaves, and the flowers, I think it might well be a circinatum of some kind. What do you think? A shirasawanum 'Aureum' next to it, the leaves of the seedling are much larger :

You reminded me I need to take that stake out! I put it in to spread out a couple of the main stems when I bought it but they should be fine now.
I use Melcourt Sylvagrow compost with a little added Melcourt fine bark compost which is slightly acidic, and sometimes a scoop of universal bonsai mix if I have some spare for extra drainage. I generally use a handful of organic slow release granule fert in late April/early May and then maybe one or two liquid feeds during the year but not much else. I could try a dose or two of ericaceous liquid feed?
The position it's in now is shaded until midday then gets 1-2 hours sun from 12-2pm then shade again.

    Hi again,

    Was ist das ? ;0)
I mean, we don't have these here.

Then, without being an authority on the matter, I'd say it sounds fine.

For some maples, it takes some time to find the right soil and the best exposure. I have several cultivars / species that don't require the same temperatures, rainfal, hours of sun, etc. Their environment is the same, with tiny variations in my garden. Will some of the non-native species have enough time to adapt to their new environment?... Who knows ^_^
