Let me put it this way i still have 32 trees in my workshop which are just at the stage of holding the leaf and colour and don't need any shock drops in temps. Been very cold this past two evenings and i am not risking anything. Most of the ground trees are in full leaf now so hopefully they are safe ?? Lots of pictures to come next week for sure though!! Some amazing colours this season makes up for last years disastrous showing.
wow those are absolutely stunning!!! I may need to add a few to my collection - which one is more sun tolerant?
The Hessei and the Phoenix but i have just realised i forgot to put the phoenix pics on DOH!! But here they are.
Good morning everyone, well as M @ROEBUK said, it's still rather cold and the worry of a rogue frost is always there. But this morning it was 4°c here in Southern England, so all OK. Everything is still slow in leafing out, but a few more of mine have started this morning. Your trees always look like they receive all the love and care in the world M. Let's hope in a few days they can all come out to play. I look forward to seeing more of your wonderfull photos next week.
Well thought I’d post some pics, some of the trees seem to be holding up to our unpredictable weather well and others seems like they may have frost damage. We have had very extreme weathers in the last 10 days. I think we had hail 3x and on those days it was screaming hot sun less than an hour prior - so hard adjustment. ***I think I figure out how to label the pictures!!!!!!**** Ara Kawa, seems to be managing Rising Sun, still slightly droopy but I think will fair fine Tsuma Gaki - seems ok Katsura, new to us I grabbed it for my partner, seems to be managing well enough Acer Japonicum Aconitifolium - aka “Rescue Tree” is the best on the claim Villa Taranto - is new to us I grabbed it for my partner, its doing well Peve Multi Colour - new to me and a gift from ME! It seems to be struggling. I believe it will survive as its older I just think it wont be super pretty this year, many of the leaves are still very shrivelled. Orange Dream, managing well which is great cause it hated last year Orangeola, is doing really well - the more protected side is more green than the more exposed side which has more red Omure Yama - seems unaffected by the weather and doing better than last year. Ice Dragon - slowly improving? The protected side has started to open up a bit and is more green but you can see the droopy smaller leaves I hope it all wakes up when our weather is warmer. Taylor, seems well but some leaves are still a little shrivelled Autumn Moom, new to me - has opened more in the last 2 days Orion, still very droopy leaves not sure if it will wake up. Moonrise, finally started to open up but still a few droopy leaves
You labelled them perfectly Lisa. And I have to agree, this crazy Spring weather is causing all sorts of problems everywhere. Here in England we are going to have the coldest May Bank Holiday weekend in 25 years. An Arctic wind is covering the UK. Looking at your hail, I recall having it here on the 4th May last year. We are going to have to live with it and protect our trees the best we can. The droopy leaves you have on some is a consequence of not enough constant warmth. That will change next month. Your photos were lovely BTW and don't worry about Peve multicolour, it does take two or even three years to settle to a new location.
Finally, what a treat I have been approved to be out and about again!!! I had to grab more transplant fertilizer so my first stop with my new found freedom was a garden store and low and behold they had a baby PEACHES and CREAM!!! I think they have a larger one as well but it has obviously suffered some issues with its graft process (apparently that’s why it wasn’t out a couple weeks ago when I was shopping) no label or price so they gave it to me at a discount and we can only pray it’s also a peaches and cream but for now its the mystery tree!!!! Confirmed smaller “Peaches and Cream” - so happy!!!! Confirmed Smaller Peaches and Cream Mystery Tree - 1st sore that appears to be healed over well enough? Mystery Tree — 2nd sore that also appears to be healed over? Mystery Tree leaves Mystery Tree, appears like tree is healthy despite the sores, the nursery typically produces very nice healthy quality trees/plants no matter the type and they said they had been caring for this one that’s why it wasn’t out sooner. They did carry a gorgeous White Peaches similar size and smaller Blonde Beauty’s so this larger tree could also be one of those as they are so incredibly similar.. or some other one as well.. we will find out!
A maple is wonderful, but a bargain maple...........now thats extra wonderful. Good find Lisa, also glad your 100 % again.
Oh I would be so pleased if it were a peaches and cream. The scars to a true novice look well but I am very out of my depth with that so I am so glad you feel they are well healed.
The thing about a cold clear night (1°c) is that it brings a lovely sunny bright morning. Perfect for a few photos to share.
