Ouch. Sorry to hear that, we've had 11.6mm this month, but most all during the last 2 days. Indeed, the record 38 days (which just beat 2020) above normal makes for a pretty baked spring. For a while the ground had enough water, so growth was good. No more...
I really like the leave colours of Hana Matoi, and try to put it in the shade so that the leaves have more green/white/pink rather than just pink and red. I want to buy another but without much success :-( Thanks for sharing yours.
Well, as I wrote in another post, I'd like to try summer grafting. If I succed, maybe we can get back to the old times of smugglers between the coast of England and the rest of the small world <LOL> Some "laws" are stupid, we had been able to share plants for decades until recently, with no ill consequences. The problems came from outside Europe, to a certain extent the regulations in the EC prevented everyone from getting infected by diseases or pests, and when there was a doubt, sanitary measures were taken. But we can't ask Chinese hornets to show their passport and medical check-up when crossing a border, can we ?... Laws and regulations that can prevent a place in Europe/the world from being infected by a virus, a disease, insects, etc. must be implemented, yes. But stupid laws are to be broken because they inevitably will - and not by honest, responsable citizens like us...
Haha, thanks. Sometimes it feels like it, too! Believe it or not, part of my strategy, 30 years ago, was to make a low-maintenance garden. What a dope! Here's a few more, which brings me up to date. Starting with the "Gold Coin corner", now the shrubs are flowering. (And I need to have a go with the strimmer!) Also, good flowers on A. erianthum, if we ever get some water there will be seeds, maybe. The uncaptioned picture is from the poor little Nagaland A. sterculiaceum, which keeps dying back but is amazingly still alive, looking back towards the older part of the aceretum. In another 10 years, this part should be pretty filled in, though whether I ever see it is another question, lol.
Your Manyo no sato has far more green/yellow on the leaves than mine! How much sun do you give it? Mine is in open shade all through the day but then gets direct sun from about 4/5pm - 8pm. It is almost completely red but with very fine edging and veins, will try grab a photo tomorrow. It had more yellow last year but I bought it fairly late into summer so most of the year I don't know how much sun it was getting before I planted it.
So many lovely colors in the garden today, hard to pick a favorite but Amagi Shigure just does it for me :)
Good morning @Cattwooduk mine gets sun all day long, it can cope with this nicely in my location. So yours should do as well in Bristol. Colours do vary depending on areas and years etc. This is often highlighted on the forum. Look forward to seeing a photo of yours.
Good morning, so after such a dry Spring, we have more rain forecast for today. So pleased !! But before it comes, a few photos for the thread in some very bright early sunshine. The Purple Ghost I took with sun coming through the leaf btw.
