More from our 3 hour tour! (Yes, I went all Gilligan there). I'm glad to hear some in the UK have had a bit of rain. It continues to be critically dry here (even if not so bad as Alain!) and I'm having to water this year's plantings. A chance of some thunder showers over the next few days, but I spoke to the Mayor about it and she is very skeptical. As old Normans can feel the weather instinctively, I'm not holding my breath. People often ask what happens after a spring freeze, and the picture of A. elegantulum (thanks Alain!) is demonstrative. It's been just 6 weeks since the big freeze, and it is enthusiastically pushing out new growth. (The burlap wrap around the protection is there to keep the stems from burning, as it's in full sun. But it did also help during the freeze, since it never got all that cold.)
In the midst of steady spring rains, 8.3"/210mm in the past 2 weeks 'Aureum' has been slowly filling in... but there was a break a few minutes ago.
I always like this seed grown one at this time of year. Photo does not do the colours justice, will try harder next time... Eddisbury on the right in the shade.
It was forecast rain overnight here in my part of Southern England, so I awoke expecting my trees to be very refreshed, but 'no', still dry. Anyway, some photos of a few that have been topical on the forum this week from a few minutes ago, plus a few others. Continuing the Spring peregrinations around the garden. It seems like things change day by day during this season, depending on light, views, development. When they were rather little both of the kids wanted "maples of their own", which they planted and "cared for" (benign neglect!) The first one is our son's, it is a fast growing healthy tree, what more could we ask? I'm still evaluating 'Chocolate Curl' but it does seem worthy and will likely be grafted and sent out into the world soon. I took a picture of the "Intermarché" group of cappadocicums, those that are left, the colors are all subtly different, although it's hard to tell how well that comes across in the photo. They're in front of some velutinum seedlings, which are showing their character more this year, with enormous leaves. If anyone wants one of these (in EU-land) speak up; I will probably keep only 3, and they get huge. I couldn't resist either another pic of our front yard feature, not with rhodos coming in, and late sun just hitting the top of the maples.
Good evening G, no once again a different area or country shows differences. Something that is all to often seen on the forum . Yours is looking very healthy.
After last night's thunderstorms, I'm simply going to title my posting this morning as 'RAINDROPS'.
