Higasa yama - It put on tremendous growth last summer..like 20” was worried about dieback but surprisingly none. I’d not heard of Abigail’s Rose - Google says a dwarf of HY..interesting
I performed surgery this morning and sealed up the wounds. I'll follow your advice for now, keep an eye on it and decide in the fall whether to leave it or container it. Thanks!!
Well, as the mornings get lighter and the dawn chorus gets earlier and earlier, I find it so enjoyable to sit in my garden when the world has not woken up, amongst my trees. Its my wife's birthday tomorrow, so this morning I started fitting up a bit of garden art for her. Reflection is quite apt on birthdays I think. My Emerald Lace will grow around it and soften the edges over time.
My experience with Emerald Lace suggests it will fill that gap in front of the mirror and it’ll look like the butterfly is coming out of the green monster :) super job Derek!
That is super beautiful and such a lovely gift. Happy birthday to your wife. We recently got a water feature, one thing I learned is listen to them before you buy. My partner got it for the dog but it’s fairly loud on our deck. I think what you got there would have been much more appropriate, great job.
Looks lovely D. We are scheduled for a month of rain again here. I really don’t know how the trees are going to fair. A month of rain is pretty brutal.
OMG Lisa, a whole month, we are the exact opposite. Just sooo dry. The one good thing is that your trees are in full leaf, unlike very early Spring when they need little to no rain. They will utilise quite a lot of water and if you have free draining soil they will cope. The only problem are pots. Can yours be lifted to allow the water to drain away better. If they can, then this will help greatly. So don't despair, all will be fine if a few steps are taken.
Thanks D, I need the optimism. Mostly all my pots are lifted with a rack or feet and I believe my soil is free draining. A couple pots on the rocks have holes on the sides so all good.
I was going to take the hose this morning, but when I woke up, I saw it had rained, at last. It went on until after noon, about 5 mm of continuous light rain, the best for the soil (when it's too heavy, the soil is compacted). The trees seemed to love it... And I think maybe my pentaphyllum is not dead... Fingers crossed!
"They" say we're going to have "occasional showers" until Sunday. But unfortunately, it's not 100% sure, and sorry, I can't send any across the Channel <LOL>
I wouldn't worry, it rains a lot in Japan, they are adapted to it. The only thing they can't deal with is soil that won't drain, but it looks like you have that sorted. We had a few decent showers today, first time in a while, but could do with some proper rain soon! That's actually pretty early for a pentaphyllum, even accounting for the fact you are ahead of us further north.
Taking photos in the garden is a bit like making a pan, a forward travelling, and then close-ups (though I'm not Alfred Hitchcock ^_^).
Few more variegated beauties putting on shows this week: Shirazz...............................Manyo no Sato
Beautiful photo Alain, although seeing all that Wisteria gives me PTSD, as I'm reminded of our old Wisteria that literally punched through a screen door and ripped it off its hinges! Not only did I pull it out, I was half-tempted to salt the ground so that it could never return!
