Does this ring a bell? I was thinking of buying it yesterday, but I suspected it was one of those plants that only blooms once every 50 years.... Anyone know the name?
That flower spike is a meter high, and each of the "rhubarb" leaves is about 25cm across. ( It was in about a 30 cm pot ) here is a flower closeup...
Bear's Breeches aka Oyster Plant will flower yearly but are zone 7ish - not sure if this is a plant that will return in your area if planted in ground. After they flower the plant will die back to the ground and then re-grow in the spring. FYI they do make an interesting display if planted en masse. And there is also a variegated form but it seems to only do well in shaded areas or it loses the white coloration
