I bought a indoor palm tree from walmart a few months ago. It has been doing pretty well up until about a week ago. I noticed some kind of cotton looking stuff growing out of the middle of the palms. This plant sits on my desk at work under a light. When I got into work today, I noticed that now I have little cotton balls growing at the top of the trunk(before the leaves come out).

Does anyone know what this might be?

    Hi there
I live in spain and alot of the palms get this,it is a nasty thing and you need to clean it of,or it will continue to grow and get into the roots of the plant. The council here and tree surgens spray the palms every few months.I had it on a palm in my house.dont worry it wont go onto other plants it really only likes palms.you may have to just give your palm a nice soapy wash every few month when you see it again.Hope that helps you.lara40.Im not sure of its name in English.

If it is mealy bugs, (sounds like it is) I'd take it back to Walmart. Mealies can be tuff to get rid of, not to mention, infest other plants.
