    Hi folks,

    I live on Sumas mountain in Abbotsford, BC.

    1- What is the best way to plant/prepaer the trench in HARD clay
    2- What is the best time of the year to plant 6' tall smarags
    3- What soil mix should I put in the trench
    4- Do I need bone meal
    5- Using a soaker hose, how long should I water for and how often
    6- How man inches do they gorw per year?

    You can amend clay til the cows come home, but it won't last long and you should find somewhere else to plant.

    Could I get away with making the trench 2 feet wide and 2 feet deep with bonemeal and lots of mushroom manure?

    no. consider a raised bed. a hole in a true clay soil is basically a bathtub. doesnt matter what soil / amendment you fill it with.

    Very sorry. I should have mentioned that the lot flows down hill and that I'd build a retention tank and the ned of the trench where the eccess water would colect
