    Hi all,

I've noticed some of the leaves on my pachira have small holes...does anyone know what is the cause? Could it be underwatering? Here are a few shots...

    Thanks!! Roanna

My guess would be some kind of pest. Possibly fungus gnats. When they feed they can cut small holes in leaves and make what looks like straw colored lines which look like scratches, sometimes on the same leaf, or a couple of leaves, over and over again. On the second photo, top left, looks like classic fungus gnat damage.

If you can, try letting the soil dry out some, Fungus gants love moist, or wet soil to lay their eggs in, also there is something called Sticky Traps which are yellow, the gnats seem to be attracted to that color and get stuck, much like those things for flies.
An inch layer of sand on top of the soil is also supposed to help as well. These things are not the easiest to get rid of if you have a lot of them, or a lot of plants, so you have to keep on top of it. Re-potting is another option.
