Hi. Thanks for this wonderful site. I bought a small potted lime tree at the local nursery and put it in the ground a few months ago. (I live in the East Bay from San Francisco). The tree gets full sun. It just sits there, seemingly neither growing nor dying. It lost a few leaves at the top, and I see no new lef buds. It flowers now and then, and there might be a few new leaves lower down. But it's almost as if the thing has been embalmed. Is this normal? Thanks.
If you are properly taking care of the tree, the "problem" is not a problem. All citrus trees first go through a root growing phase, then when the root growing phase is complete (about 2-3 months), the foliage growing phase begins. Being that your tree is recently planted in the ground, the tree will need to complete the root growing phase before you see any new foliage. Do your watering, fertilizing and general care and your tree will be grateful and preform its duties. Generally, three complete growth stages occur each year. There are many postings on this web site, advising on fertilization, watering and general care. The best to this tree. - Millet
