Identification: Silver Birch Growth

    Strange looking growths on trunk of Silver Birch tree. The growths went a considerable distance up the trunk- getting smaller the higher they were.
    This particular tree had triple trunks but only one trunk had growths.
    Tree, which was in leaf, looked healthy.

    Yes, a young Birch Polypore fungus - sadly, it means the tree's days are numbered. It'll live for a few years yet, but not much more.
