Recently I was away for 5 weeks and had a friend come water my plants. Unfortunately I came home to to 5 dead plants, 3 more I couldn't save... And these guys. I created 2 posts to make it less overwhelming (mostly for me). Part 2 is my hoya, tradescantia and sansevieria. What's wrong? Ideas? There are so many symptoms that overlap I've confused myself. My house is very dry in the winter; it's a combination of living in Saskatchewan (dry climate) and having the furnace running. Please let me know if better photos or more information is required. A little info on these plants: dracaena marginata - east facing window, doesn't get direct sunlight. Water when pot is light until water comes through bottom It's always had droopy leaves, but this is ridiculous. aglaonema - east facing window, doesn't get direct sunlight.Water when pot is light, or whenever I think it needs it. These plants are tough, wow. It's leaves have been yellowing for a while, no big deal, life cycles. But when I got home home it was full of dead, dry yellow leaves and these ones had little black spots (didn't get pics before I threw them out). I took a picture of a leaf stem because I noticed it's kind of translucent and stripey. In the week I've been back I've discovered this means the leaf will soon die so I'm going to do some preemptive pruning. I've also taken to snipping off any leaves that look like they have a sick/yellow/uneven colour undertone, if that makes sense.
How cold did the house get while you're gone? The Aglaonema is the first to get mushy leaves (after Dieffenbachia) if kept too cold. Under or overwatering can cause leaf yellowing and drop. http://mrec.ifas.ufl.edu/foliage/folnotes/aglaonem.htm
The coldest my house would have been is 21 C If you look closely at some of the pictures, I think there's a lot more to it than temperature. The leaves on the aglaonema have never been mushy.
