I followed directions last fall and I cleaned then stored my tubers in sawdust. I just took them out where they were stored in a cool place and they are very shriveled. Some are completely hard and shriveled and others are shriveled with some soggy feeling pulp left inside. There is no evidence of an eye or leaves. I'm so disappointed. I got these from a neighbour and they were absolutely stunning last season even though I had only a part shade spot for them. Should I bother planting them? thank you for your thoughts.

Being me (ie Frugal) and not really very knowledgeable, I would try to rehydrate the tubers. I would put them in a tray like a cat box tray with one inch of soil on top and on the bottom, keep it pretty moist. I would put the tray on concrete or something that will radiate heat and in the sun. See if they still have any energy left to do something If they do sprout at least you will know. I live just south and east of you in Anacortes and I do not dig up my Dahlia tubers, but then I tend to garden by the seat of my pants.

Heeellllp! Dahlia people please chime in!

In the past, I too have left my tubers in the ground, but I loved these so much I thought I had better do it right. Ha. Thanks for the tip. Nothing to lose by trying.
