I just purchased a new home in the country in Michigan, and immediately noticed excessive sap leakage and needle browning on several of my evergreens. I called in a tree care specialist who quickly identified 'shot bore', and showed me their little exit holes,..etc..etc. He recommends deep root fertilization and explained that it will get the sap flowing, vigorating the tree and it will 'smother'/kill the bores. Then follow up in spring. I am looking for any other insight on this treatment. I am a complete layman to tree care up north having just moved from Fl. Is there no spray? or more direct course of action to kill the bore? Any help or opinions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
