I am having building work done on my house and had to make a quick decision this morning to have a branch of my cherry tree cut so that the scaffolding could go up. What can I do to ensure that this does not damage the tree? I live in Oxford where it is very cold and foggy today, but that could change within 24 hours.

Since the branch has already been cut the matter has already been determined. The next step is for the tree to callus over the cut surface where the branch was removed.

Thanks for taking the time to reply, Ron. Does this mean there's nothing for me to do?

Depending on the location of the cut on the branch you may be able to give the tree a better chance of sealing the wound. Cutting to a branch collar or to an appropriate emerging bud or branch is best.

Thanks, Paul. This is reassuring. I think I'm OK.
