Hey folks, can anyone tell me if a small bonsai will survive a trip across the country in the cargo hold of a plane. I recently moved and couldn't fit my lovely tree into the car, and my in-laws are flying out this summer and are willing to bring my tree. Is this a viable option? Thanks for any advice. Allen
If it's properly packaged and marked I don't see why not, but I would check with that particular airline to see what they say, or if they have any restrictions (if they ship pets then plants shouldn't be a problem). If it's not an option you could try mailing it, depending upon the size of the plant - I believe Canada Post has a size restriction up to 48" for the length of the box but no restrictions on shipping plants across Canada. I recently mailed a small finger lime from BC to PQ via Canada Post's 2 day express and it arrived on time and in great shape; being 2 day express it could only get there by plane. I just made sure the plant was well secured within the box (in case it was turned upside down) and then plastered the outside of the box with "this side up", "handle with care" and "perishable, live plant" labels.
