What orange tree should I buy? I am only a few months away from a DREAM I have had for over ten years. My husband and I have been building a home almost all by ourselves. There is a small "orangerie" - a South facing section that is 9 feet tall with skylights and windows. We are currently finishing out this area and will install a timed mister, as I see in your discussions that they are important. So I need 5 orange trees that will be about 8 feet tall when potted. The most important thing is lots of flowers for their wonderful scent. And Easy. WHAT SHOULD I BUY???? And where? Thank you!
I am not going to get into what varieties of citrus you should purchase. However, because you are in KC, your trees will be grown as containerized trees. When you purchase your trees they will come as grafted trees. A grafted tree is a two part tree. One part will be the rootstock, and the second part is the scion (top part of the tree), which will be grafted onto the rootstock. I strongly recommend that you purchase a tree that has been grafted upon a dwarfing rootstock variety, which produces an eight foot mature tree, producing fruit of very high quality. Here is a high quality supplier that offers a wide variety of true dwarf citrus trees. Many members of this forum, have purchased a lot of trees from them, and can attest to their quality. - Millet (1,383-) http://www.fourwindsgrowers.com/
