I have heard that the use of epson salts on the sego palms - but how much to use and how often ? Is there any other care that this plant needs. I have just transplanted two very large century cactus - the root system is shallow do I need to do anything for the cactus ? How often should I water the cactus? Can the epson salts be of any benefit to the cactus? Thank you for any help and ideas. Dean
Hi, Dean Yes, epsom salts can be beneficial to sago palms (which are not palms, actually, but a cycad, Cycas revoluta). Epsom salts are magnesium, and a magnesium deficiency shows up at a yellow margin around the leaves. You can add about a tablespoon to a gallon of water, or just sprinkle some around the plant. It helps to keep it green and lush. Cycads are my specialty; I'm afraid I don't know much about century plants.
