I would like to start both red and green seedless grapes in my back yard. I live in Qualicum Beach and have been told the area is good for the growing of grapes.
Could you suggest a green variety that is seedless and sweet for table purposes, and also a red that is sweet and seedless for table purposes.

    Thank you

Gary, we grow both Himrod and Interlaken here. I wish i knew which was which actually, as one ripens much more reliably and therefore is always preferable (sweeter overall). Both were highly recommended for the coast.

Red varieties may all be borderline here...we got one from Art's Nursery a year ago, still no fruit but hoping they picked a good one for the area. Named Monukka. I've also heard Sutton Red mentioned, tho never seen it for sale locally.

I had started a Reliance grape here in Surrey last year. It is supposed to be the best tasting, seedless, red/pink table grape.

It is a very early grape, which is a great asset for BC with its short cold summers.

I applied a lot of chicken manure and grass clippings and mulched it well with bark and it really took off right away...

This year it has already doubled in size and has put out 50 clusters of grapes many of which I have thinned.... This is is contrast to the soveriegn coronation and the Thompson seedless and the flame grapes that I had planted at the same time....

Let us see whether it matures into sweet fruit or not... but so far it has turned out the best.

    Hope this helps

Interlaken ripens earlier than Himrod and has tigher clusters. Himrod has loose straggly clusters.
