Hello Everyone, I am trying to grow a new lawn from seeds. Let me first explain what I did: The old grass was physically dug up and removed. Then left alone for a few months. Weeds that appeared were killed with RoundUp during this time. Before seeding, the area was levelled and very lightly raked. Then, I sowed the seeds. It has not been too hot out (low 15 degrees Celcius, high 20) and the area is watered two to three times a day. It's been more than 2 weeks now, and I see grass growing in large patches. There are other large patches than have no grass. I have several questions: 1. Does the area need to be kept CONSTANTLY moist? 2. Is it important that I didn't turn over the soil again just before sowing? 3. Do the grass seeds need to be covered with dirt? What if they're mostly on the surface? Does anyone know how I might get my new lawn to grow??? Thank you all in advance!!!
Hello, It's been a while now that I made this post and thought I would give an update of my lawn seeding experience if it may be useful to anyone in the future sowing a lawn. To answer my own questions: 1. I found the grass grew better when I started watering it a bit more often. It was probably a bit dry in the beginning. 2. It wasn't important that the soil be turned over again. The grass is looking quite good. 3. Most of my seeds were just on the surface, and they seemed to grow. I can't say that what I did is ideal or not, but I hope it can be of help to others.
