Hi there, I'm Raven8 and I'm new to this forum. Hoping that someone can help me out with some ideas for a project that I'm working on.

I am currently raising a baby tarantula that's originally from the desert scrub lands of Chile. It's an extremely docile spider that won't grow very large.

So what does this have to do with plants? Well, I'm looking for some form of scrub grass to put in her terrarium. She's going to be in a typical 5 gallon aquarium, so it should be on the small side (I know that this is probably not feasable, so I'll likely end up having to trim it) and shouldn't have sharp edges like some grasses. It will be kept at room temperature to above and receive moderate water at most, some full-spectrum lighting, and no fertilization. I'll be using a mix of top soil, coir, a touch of sand, and some local dirt for potting medium. In essence, it'll be in a moderate temperature desert

In looking around the internet, the best candidate that I've come across seems to be carex eburnea. My one worry there is that it seems to get fairly large, though I'd imagine that some proper trimming and water management can fix that. Of course then I still have to get/propagate the seeds.....

Any advice that you may have is greatly appreciated! Thanks a ton!

I've only found people discussing grasses in terrariums on some of the reptile forums. There are several challenges with this idea: depth of roots would be shallow and lack of air movement (every sort of low-growing arid environment grass I can think of is in a high- to moderate-wind environment). What is the appeal of using grass as opposed to something else with known success in terrarium environments?
