We are growing Fosh grapes which are in their 5th season. We have had healthy grapes to this point but are seeing a brownish scab forming on a large number of the clusters. The plants are healthy although we have a larger infestation of leafhoppers than usual. The berries with scab are shrinking and drying up. I have also found earwigs in some of the infected clusters but understand the are more of a preditor and should not be the cause. Can anyone help with information on what may be the problem with the grapes? Thanks in advance. Doug Urban Vines
Hi Doug would it be possible to send me a picture? it would really help in narrowing down the problem. is the problem equally spread on all bunches or localised? just on the bunches or do you see similar scabbing on leaves or stalks? I check this site daily so let me know. dalarry
larry The scab is not on the leaves. It is on some clusters throughout the vineyard. It has been suggested that the dried berries may have had a touch of frost in the bloom stage, and that the scab may have started from the wet weather we had in June. We also had some intense heat after the wet spell. I will still try to post a picture. ' Thanks again. Doug
Possibly sun scald. Look at: http://www.grapes.msu.edu/sunscald.htm But still try to post a pic. Ralph
