I just got a few pinchings off of a plant (it was for sale, but let's just say that I didn't buy it), that was mislabelled. I looked through my books, and found that it is a Rhipsalis pilocarpa. I'll try to root them in a day or so, but am wondering how fast they grow, and the likelihood of my getting it to bloom. Are the blooms charming? I google-imaged, and they look charming, but I'd sure like to hear more about the plant, if anyone has one.
Quite fast, like most epiphytic cacti. They sometimes shed stem segments in response to mite attacks and other disturbances. High, they flower relatively easily (in early winter if I remember rightly). The flowers are at least bigger and slightly more colourful than for the majority of Rhipsalis, though not as eye-catching as those of the "Holiday Cacti".
Thanks for the reply. I wasn't too impressed with the plant overall, but then Hatiora/Rhipsalis don't thrill me much. I googled the flowers and thought they were delicately beautiful. I try not to keep plants around just for the bloom time, as it is generally quite short, but the spider-like quality of the plant is starting to grow on me. Also I haven't ever seen one in my travels, and so I expect they are quite rare in my area. Thanks again.
Hello, To answer your question about that particular plant, I'd say that it is very very beautiful, the red fruits that changes to white flowers. I purchase that plants a few years ago, and still, I just can't stop looking at it when the fruits grows and then changes to flowers. So enjoy it!
Hello Chester, I answered a few of your questions a few minutes ago; i'm sending you a photo of my plant.
I didn't get your reply until now... don't ask. Anyway, I was wondering if you could give me detailed instructions on how you've managed to get yours to grow and bloom so beautifully?
