I am a novice gardener planting a new foundation bed. I became interested in A.P. 'Butterfly' for it's size and vase shape, however was disenchanted when I noticed 2 out of 5 trees with leaves that reverted to solid green at the nursery. I started looking for a similar sized/shaped maple with red leaves, but have been overwhelmed by the many varieties. Does anyone have a suggestion for an upright japanese maple to be used as a foundation plant about 3-4' from the garage, so a max 6 ' spread. Height could be 6-12' or so. I would prefer something with red leaves or coral bark, that grows relatively easily in a variety of soils, and tolerates full sun from 11:00am through the day in zone 6. Any suggestions or advice are appreciated.
Red Wood,Winter Flame have a red bark and compact grown,my preferite variegated is Ukigumo ,but change your source!!
