I am considering buying a vineyard but the vines are over 20 years old? Will they need to be replaced soon? Is there somewhere I can find out how long different varieties of wine grape vines will continue to produce?
Big big big investment of money, time, spirit... Find a vineyard consultant you are comfortable with (and with good references!). You might try Eric von Krosigk at http://www.wineryconsulting.com/ Ralph
Thankyou for the reference. How much time on a daily basis do you think it would take to handle a vineyard per acre (with the exception of harvesting?) How many acres could a couple handle?
Contact the BC grape growers association. They can help you out. Here's a list of consultants that can help you. Most important is their a demand for the varities you have planted in the vineyard. Old vines are great because the wine quality is usually excellent if they have been maintained properly. Also does the vineyard have a contract with a winery. http://www.grapegrowers.bc.ca/consultants.shtml Eric is excellent I have worked with him in the past. Cheers
