Hi all, this is my first post... We have a wall of ivy running 25 yards wide and about 40 yards high. It all started dying 2 weeks ago and we have since discovered that the main roots have been severed all the way through; some a full inch thick, and 3-5 inch branches remain. 80% of the ivy has been affected and has died. Is there any way to repair these branches and save this beautiful wall of ivy? Thanks in advance for any advice...
Too late now, and as it sounds like malicious damage, even if you had been able to re-graft the stems, the person who did it would probably just come back and repeat the damage. Might be worth getting a police criminal damage investigation, though I fear it's unlikely they'd be able to find the culprit. The stems at the base will resprout new growth, but it'll be many years before you get full cover again. And you'll need to be vigilant to protect against further vandalism.
