Removing grafting tape

Discussion in 'Plants: Science and Cultivation' started by Ross Q, Dec 20, 2005.

  1. I am from New Zealand, so just add 6 months to everything I say here. I grafted 2 varieties of apple together with a cleft graft in August, then covered the graft with plumbers' tape and petroleum jelly. The graft took and now here it is December and I am unsure when to remove the plastic tape. Any suggestions?

Slice through the tape with a sharp knife or razor blade so the tree can expand, but don't pull the tape off; it will fall off eventually.
