I am wondering if a redbud tree would be ok for the area we live in (Howe Sound, near Vancouver, BC)?

If so, is there a particular type of redbud that would be better than others?

Cercis canadensis 'Forest Pansy' - my neighbour has one here in Vancouver; it does great.

    Hi doodah,

I grew a beautiful young Cercis canadensis 'Forest Pansy' when I lived in the city (Vancouver, BC). I now live on Bowen Island and am about to put one in here. I understand the important factor to be good drainage. They also require some pruning to prevent breakage from heavy rain or snow, as the branches are rather brittle. My specimen suffered breakage in heavy early summer rains after leafing out.

You may want to read this thread for further information.

This is an informative document from the University of Florida:

    Good luck,

Is there a cultivar of Cercis siliquastrum that has red or purple leaves?
