I'm trying to find a Red Pagoda Beech. I was told that it is not a "red beech", nor is it a "Pagoda tree". But, I can find no reference to a "Red Pagoda Beech". Any clues?
I have heard of (and planted) a Red Parasol Beech, Fagus sylvatica 'Purpurea Torutosa', which is a semi-weeping, purple leafed beech- verrrrry slow growing tree! It is not a common cultivar, but it is occasionally available.
On further review I flipped through Dirr's Manual of woody landscape plants and he lists Fagus sylvatica 'Tortuosa' . noted " ...sometimes referred to as the Parasol Beech." There are several cultivars listed in the following text including 'Tortuosa Purpurea' but no common names or reference to a specific one as red pagoda. This may be as close as you get though, it seems to fit the bill.
