    Hello All

I have a red maple on my property which is atleast 6 years old. We did some landscapping around it 4 months ago and has some shrubs around it and some stone installed around it. We have been taking good care of the shrubs too. The soild around the tree is moist so its not like its drying. The shrubs around it died some time ago. Recently the leaves are drying and falling. I see some spots on the green leaves left. I called an Arbosrist and she says it because of newly installed soil around it (for landscaping) and suggested we remove the soil and some root fertilization. The landscaping guy came around and says it may be because of some fungus and insects and suggested pesticide use. Now i am confused with this conflicting statements. The branches are not dry yet, i see new buds coming out on the small braches , i suppose new leaves. The edges of leaves are brown and seems like leaves are getting brown from outside to inside. Any idea what may be causing. The landscaping guy did say he saw some other maples near by affected by this insects. Any idea what might be going on and how can i save this tree.Any info is greatly appreciated.

    Thank you

    -Raghu

Nobody here will have a better idea than the people you have had on the site. Maybe you can submit samples to your nearest Cooperative Extension office for examination or testing and get an accurate determination of what is going on.

The fact that this has happened only since you did the landscaping would strongly suggest that that is your problem
I think I would heed the advice from your arborist. Maybe your landscaping guy is trying to avoid any responsibility?
